CAIRO – 12 September 2017: France condemned on Tuesday the terrorist attack that occurred in Arish City, North Sinai, leaving 18 policemen dead and three others injured.

Security convoys in Arish City, North Sinai were bombed by Islamic State militants. Four police-armored vehicles were consequently destroyed.

In a statement released by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, France reiterated its full solidarity with the government and people of Egypt at the time of the Arab nation’s ongoing war against terrorism. France extended its condolences to the families of the victims, hoping for a speedy recovery to those injured, the statement added.

Also on Tuesday, the Security Council released a statement in condemning the “heinous and cowardly” attack, which hit security patrols in Arish, North Sinai.

North Sinai has been a staging ground for militants operating in Egypt for decades. It is also home to the Islamic State’s Egyptian arm, which has been targeting members of the Christian community and security forces in the area.
