CAIRO – 12 September 2017: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinders international efforts, most importantly U.S. endeavors to achieve progress in the peace process with the Palestinians, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said on Tuesday.

“U.S. President Donald Trump has to realize that the Israeli prime minister is a stumbling block to the peace process,” Aboul Gheit continued.

During his speech at the 148th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, Aboul Gheit stressed that Iran should stop interfering in Arab countries’ affairs.

Syrian, Iraqi and Yemeni crises have been discussed in Aboul Gheit’s speech, adding that the Arab nations have to preserve their security and stability to fight any attempt to tear the Arabs apart.

“Our Arab world witnesses extraordinary circumstances whose political impacts are significant, most notably the Syrian problem which deems a deep injury at the Arab nation’s heart,” Aboul Gheit emphasized.

Aboul Gheit added that foreign and extremist militias in the Syrian territory are not welcome, stressing that Syria “must remain untied.”

For the Iraqi situation, Aboul Gheit said defeating terrorist organizations and the Islamic State (IS) are “our Arab nation’s hope” to restore the stability of the Arab territory.
