CAIRO – 21 August 2017: Qatar has renewed the duration of a contract signed with John Ashcroft, the Washington-based law firm, to legally represent the country against ongoing terrorism accusations, according to Qatari media reports.

The company that is owned by the prominent lawyer John Ashcroft was hired to defend Qatar from the accusations made by four Arab states that Qatar is supporting and financing terrorist groups.

The contract was signed last January in exchange of $35 million, but when the duration concluded, it was further renewed at the beginning of the current month. Ashcroft has so far received $2.5 million as a down payment from Qatar in June and then received $6 million in early August.

In accordance to the signed contract, the US company is assigned to prove that the Gulf nation was committed to the standards of fighting terrorism.

The law firm work will also manage Qatar’s crisis with its neighbors, provide analysis over the crisis, communicate with the media, and publicize the Qatari efforts to combat global terrorism.

Ashcroft was the 79th general attorney of the U.S. during the presidency of George Bush. His law firm, which was recently established, played a vital role in the Iraq war of 2003, as it provided the legal justification for the violations carried out by the U.S. inside Iraq.
