CAIRO – 19 August 2017: A number of Twitter users from Arab and Gulf states have circulated an image of Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Thani titled “Saleel Al Majd” (Descendant of Glory), featuring picture of the Sheikh Abdullah, a Qatari royal family member, following his mediation initiative with Saudi Arabia under current political and economic rift.

The image expressed solidarity and unity with Sheikh Abdullah’s efforts in current situation. Sheikh Abdullah tweeted on Friday to thank Saudi King Salman bin Abdelaziz after a decision to open the Salwa border crossing for the entry of Qatari pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's territories without electronic permits.

The hashtag #عبدالله_ال_ثاني_نورت_التويتر, meaning Welcome to Twitter Abdullah Al Thani, was heavily circulated across Twitter after the tweets.

A large set of officials, politicians, writers and public figures used the hashtag to welcome Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali to the scene.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali is the second son of the late Emir Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani, the grandson of the Emir of Qatar, Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani, and the brother of Sheikh Ahmed bin Ali Al-Thani, who was overthrown by his cousin Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al-Thani, grandfather of Prince Tamim bin Hamad on February 22, 1972.

Sheikh Abdullah used his Twitter account to extend his appreciation to the Saudi king, he also referred to a special operations room staffed by Saudis to cater to Qataris’ affairs and will be under his supervision while countries’ ties are currently severed.
He also denied all rumors that the Saudi Kingdom has banned transactions via Qatari Riyal.

The four Arab states, collectively called the Anti-Terror Quartet (ATQ), have accused Doha of supporting terrorist organizations and individuals, as well as maintaining close ties with Iran, which the ATQ have accused of trying to destabilize the region by fomenting sectarian strife.
