CAIRO – 4 August 2017: Egypt and its allies’ recent move to stack up global measures to halt the flow of arms to terrorist groups came as a result of the region’s long-simmering suffering inflicted by Qatar-sponsored terrorism, which has inflicted the region for a long time, Ambassador Amr Aboul Atta, Egypt's permanent representative to the United Nations, said on Friday.

On Wednesday, the U.N. Security Council session chaired by Egypt approved Resolution 2370 to ban supplying terrorist organizations with weapons. Aboul Atta urged all U.N. member states to provide their full cooperation in implementing Resolution 2370.

Qatar’s long track record of supporting terrorism became well known, he said, adding that Cairo will remain adherent to its international treaties and commitments.

Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain announced in a joint statement, two days into the Arab boycott of Qatar in early June, that they have included 59 individuals and 12 organizations with ties to Qatar on their terrorist watch list.
