CAIRO – 25 April 2025: On behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly traveled to Uganda to lead the Egyptian delegation at the Extraordinary Summit of the Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), held in Entebbe.

The Prime Minister is set to deliver Egypt’s official address during the summit. The proceedings will include a closed session for heads of state and government, followed by a group photo of the delegation leaders, and then a plenary session. The summit will conclude with the adoption of a joint statement.

This summit is being held as part of the transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which officially commenced operations in January 2025, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2767 of 2024.

The gathering aims to define the roles, commitments, and contributions of troop- and police-contributing countries involved in the new African mission to Somalia.

Egypt has consistently expressed its unwavering support for Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity, particularly amid recent tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia following a controversial agreement signed in January 2024 between Ethiopia and Somaliland—a self-declared, unrecognized state.

The agreement, which potentially grants Ethiopia access to the sea in exchange for recognizing Somaliland, was strongly rejected by Somalia as a violation of its sovereignty.

However, in December 2024, Somalia and Ethiopia reached a resolution through a mediated agreement facilitated by Ankara.
