CAIRO - 14 April 2025: The Ministry of Transport has announced the completion rates of the ongoing project to complete and develop Sokhna Port through national companies. The port is considered a key component of the "Sokhna / Dekheila" logistics corridor.

This project aligns with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to implement the integrated container logistics axis "Sokhna – Alexandria" to connect the Red and Mediterranean Seas.

Key Information about the Project:

1. The project's implementation comes within the framework of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to develop all Egyptian ports, aiming to transform Egypt into a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade.

2. Sokhna Port is a primary component of the "Sokhna / Dekheila" logistics corridor, the implementation of which follows President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to establish the integrated container logistics axis "Sokhna – Alexandria" linking the Red and Mediterranean Seas.

3. The first phase of the port's development project is the "Hutchison" container terminal, where infrastructure works have been 100% completed. Progress is underway in the superstructure works, including the terminal yard, administrative buildings, and fences.

4. The total area of the port is 29 km2. The development works include the construction of 5 new basins, 18 kilometers of marine berths with a depth of 18 meters, as well as the establishment of 9.2 million m2 of handling yards, 5.2 km2 of logistics zones, a network of 17 km of internal concrete-paved roads, and a 30 km railway network connected to the high-speed electric train line.

The project to establish the superstructure and manage, operate, exploit, maintain, and redeliver a container terminal at Sokhna Port is part of the comprehensive plan to complete and develop the port, making it the largest port on the Red Sea. The port's master plan has been designed to rival the most modern international ports, serving regional and international trade movement.

6. Cooperation with the largest global alliance in the field of managing and operating shipping lines and international container terminals 1 is part of the Ministry of Transport's comprehensive plan to form strategic partnerships with major international container terminal operating companies and shipping lines. This aims to ensure the arrival and frequency of the largest possible number of global ships at Egyptian ports, double port operating capacity, and expand transit trade, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to transform Egypt into a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade.
