CAIRO – 27 February 2025: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov made a phone call on Thursday, February 27, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty praised the depth of the historical relations between Egypt and Russia, appreciating the rapid growth in joint cooperation in various fields, especially after the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement was signed by the two countries' presidents in 2018.
Abdelatty stressed the keenness to continue to advance bilateral relations in implementation of the directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The Egyptian minister of foreign affairs stressed the importance of exchanging visits between the two sides to advance joint cooperation and economic and trade relations, praising the achieved bilateral cooperation, most notably in the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, the Russian industrial zone project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and the joint cooperation in the oil, gas, tourism, and aviation sectors.
The official spokesman added that the two ministers also exchanged views on the developments in the Gaza Strip and Syria, where Minister Abdelatty reviewed the ongoing preparations for the Arab Summit set to be hosted by Cairo on March 4.
Abdelatty also tackled Egypt's efforts to ensure the consolidation and sustainability of the ceasefire agreement in Gaz, and went over the plan being formulated for the reconstruction of Gaza while keeping the Palestinians on their land, stressing Egypt's rejection of their displacement from the strip and the need to reach a permanent and just political solution to the Palestinian issue.
