CAIRO - 4 February 2025: The Food Technology Research Institute organized a practical program entitled "Modern Technologies for Dates Packaging and Manufacturing" for a number of university students, in implementation of the directives of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk to prepare specialized practical programs to train university students to qualify them for the labor market and encourage them to establish small and micro projects in the field of food manufacturing and under the auspices of Dr. Adel Abdel Azim, Head of the Agricultural Research Center.

Dr. Shaker Arafat, Director of the Institute, pointed out that the date crop in Egypt is a strategic crop, as Egypt ranks first in the world and there is a continuous increase in the number of palm trees in all governorates of Egypt.

Date production in Egypt is one of the most important productive sectors in the national economy, which contributes to increasing exports to foreign markets, achieving economic and societal development, and creating job opportunities.

Dates are a food rich in carbohydrates and a good source of minerals such as iron, potassium, and manganese, and a moderate source of calcium and magnesium, and a good source of dietary fiber. If a person eats 15 dates per day, which weigh about 100 grams, then such an amount of dates provides the human body with its full daily needs of magnesium, sulfur, and copper, and provides the body with half of its iron needs and a quarter of its potassium and calcium needs.
