FM affirms Egypt’s full support to Lebanon, conveys invitation from Sisi to Aoun to visit Cairo

CAIRO – 31 January 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty said on Friday that he conveyed an invitation from President Abdel Fattah al Sisi to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to visit Egypt as soon as possible.

He added in a press conference with Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib in Beirut that he stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Lebanon during meeting with president Aoun.

Abdelatty said that Egypt’s support for Lebanon is a continuing process that has never stopped and will not stop, noting that the Egyptian position is steadfast against the Israeli violations and breaches. He also stressed the need for the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army forces from southern Lebanon.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs added, that he has periodic contacts with my Lebanese counterpart Bou Habib, as they always emphasize the importance of adhering to the full implementation of the truce and ceasefire agreement and the need for the complete Israeli withdrawal from all Lebanese territories.

Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s full solidarity and support with Lebanon at this difficult time. “We are confident that Lebanon will recover from its crisis and we trust the administration of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.”

The Foreign Minister stressed that he spoke with his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib, about the great importance of implementing UN Resolution 1701 with all its provisions and texts.

He stressed Egypt's keenness on the necessity of a complete and undiminished Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, without detracting from any inch of Lebanese sovereignty and territory.

“Contacts are ongoing with the American and French sides to convey Egyptian messages on the importance of continuing the ceasefire and reaffirming the Egyptian position, which will not change.”

He also stressed the importance of forming the Lebanese government, adding: “We support all efforts to form a Lebanese government that does not exclude anyone or exclude anyone and reflects all sectarian and religious diversity in brotherly Lebanon, and we look forward to the speedy completion of this matter.”

 

Egypt’s FM also welcomed in his statements the deployment of the Lebanese National Army in southern Lebanon, expressing Egypt's keenness to provide full support to the military institution and the Lebanese National Army.

Abdelatty explained that he is visiting Beirut for the third time in 6 months, per President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directives, to offer congratulations, support and solidarity to the Lebanese people and state, on the election of General Joseph Aoun as President of Lebanon, stressing that Aoun's election was a source of ‘great relief’ for the Lebanese and Egyptian peoples, leadership and government of Egypt.

The Foreign Minister added: “We are all hopeful and confident in President Aoun's wise management in leading Lebanon, and we trust that Lebanon will recover and rise to assume its honorable position among nations, and Lebanon has always been and will remain a center of culture, art, economic and financial activity in the Arab world.”

He stressed that President Sisi's directives to the government are to work on redeveloping and activating the frameworks of bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Lebanon.

Abdelatty said that he is looking forward to the convening of the joint higher committee between Egypt and Lebanon, headed by the two prime ministers, immediately after the formation of the government led by Salam.

“We affirm Egypt's full support for the reconstruction of Lebanon and resolving crises within the framework of international efforts, and we also affirm the readiness of Egypt, the government and Egyptian companies to implement recovery projects in Lebanon within the framework of international efforts,” Abdelatty said.
