CAIRO – 25 January 2025: At the invitation of the Cypriot government, Ambassador Sameh Shoukry, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, visited Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, to receive the Order of Makarios III (the Grand Cross of Makarios III) in recognition of his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus during his tenure as Egypt’s Foreign Minister.

 

The award ceremony, held at the Cypriot Presidential Palace, was attended by President Nikos Christodoulides of the Republic of Cyprus. During the event, President Christodoulides expressed deep appreciation for Ambassador Shoukry’s tireless efforts in developing and enhancing relations between the two countries across various sectors, highlighting the historical ties that bind Egypt and Cyprus.

 

In his remarks, Ambassador Shoukry thanked President Christodoulides for the honor and expressed his gratitude for the recognition. He praised the exceptional relations between the two countries and their peoples, and wished for continued progress and prosperity for both Egypt and Cyprus.

 

Later, Ambassador Shoukry delivered a lecture at the Cyprus Diplomatic Academy, attended by Cyprus' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Constantinos Kombos, members of the Cypriot diplomatic corps, and a group of former Cypriot ambassadors to Egypt. In his address, he discussed the recent developments in bilateral relations and provided insights into the current situation in the Middle East, sharing his perspective on regional developments.
