Divorce, marriage rates declined: CAPMAS

CAIRO - 25 July 2017: Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued on Tuesday the ‘Annual Bulletin of marriage and divorce statistics 2016.’

The bulletin stated that the number of marriage contract reached 938526 contracts in 2016, compared to 969399 contracts in 2015, a decrease of 3.2 percent, while the number of divorce declarations reached 192079 in 2016 compare to 199867 declarations in 2015, a decrease of 3.9 percent.

There were also some important indicators in the bulletin, like number of marriages in urban area reached 370411 contracts in 2016 representing 39.5 percent of the total contracts compared to 409906 contracts in 2015, a decrease of 9.6 percent.

While the number of marriages in rural area showed a decrease of 1.5 percent.

According to Age Groups, for husbands the highest percentage of marriage was recorded in the age group of 25 to less than 30 years. But for wives the highest percentage of marriage was recorded in the age group of 20 to less than 25 years.

Concerning the Educational State, the highest percentage of marriage was recorded in mid certificates for husbands by 35.9 percent and for wives by 31 percent, while the lowest percentage was recorded in men with university degree for husbands by 0.4 percent and for wives by 0.2 percent of the total contracts.

The same for Wives where highest percentage of women marriage was recorded in mid certificates where the number of contracts reached 291379 by 31 percent, while the lowest rate of marriage was recorded in women with university degree as the number of contracts reached in 1854 by 0.2 percent of the total contracts.

Turning into divorce, the number of urban divorce reached 105200 divorce declarations which represent 54.8 percent of the total in 2016 compared to 114780 declarations in 2015, a decrease by 17.2 percent.

While in rural areas the number of divorce declarations reached 86879 representing 45.2 percent of the total divorce declarations in 2016 compared to 85087 in 2015, an increase by 2.1 percent.

For men the highest divorce rate was recorded in the age group of 30 to less than 35 years, while the lowest divorce rate recorded in the age group of 18 to less than 20 years.

For Divorced Women the highest divorce rate was recorded in the age group of 25 to less than 30 year, while the lowest divorce rate was recorded in the age group of 65 years and over.

The Educational State was almost the same in marriage state, for Divorced Men the highest divorce rate was recorded in men with intermediate certificates which represents 33.3 percent and for women with 30.8 percent, while the lowest divorce rate was recorded in men with university degree by 0.4 percent and for women by 0.3 percent of the total Divorce declarations.
