CAIRO – 6 December 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Chairman of Denmark’s A.P. Moller-Maersk Robert Uggla met in Copenhagen on Friday, discussing opportunities to boost the company’s investments in Egypt.
Uggla expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the Egyptian government to the company's operations in Egypt.
He commended Egypt's efforts to attract foreign investments in various sectors and remove any obstacles for companies operating in Egypt.
Uggla also affirmed A.P. Moller-Maersk’s commitment to enhancing its cooperation with Egypt and considering expanding its operations in the country.
Sisi, on his part, expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with Maersk, praising the company's efforts to develop some Egyptian container terminals with the aim of transforming them into global container trading hubs in the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean region.
The president also hailed the company's projects to produce and supply its ships with green fuel, contributing to making Egypt a regional hub for the company's operations, whether in container trade or clean fuel production.
The meeting took place while Sisi and King Frederik X of Denmark opened today the Egyptian-Danish business conference in Copenhagen, a day before the president is scheduled to sign a strategic partnership deal with Denmark.
STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
The president emphasized that the core of this partnership lies in the economic, commercial, and investment aspects between the two countries, as well as in enhancing cooperation between their private sectors.
He highlighted key cooperation sectors of mutual interest for Egypt and Denmark, such as shipping, maritime transport, as well as clean, renewable, and green energy.
Sisi emphasized Egypt's vast opportunities in these fields, which the Danish side can leverage.
The president emphasized the formation of the Egyptian-Danish Business Council, which he inaugurated along with the Danish king today, as a crucial starting point for Danish economic and commercial entities to explore the investment potential in Egypt.
Sisi stated that these entities can tap into Egypt's investment potential in infrastructure, communications, information technology, manufacturing industries, as well as production of clean energy, renewable and green energy, and circular economy sectors.
The president stressed that investments in these sectors support Egypt's efforts to become a regional hub for supply chains and the transfer and trade of renewable and green energy, given the country's strategic geographical location.
Egypt welcomes Danish investors to engage in projects across shared interest areas, aiming to boost Denmark’s investments in Egypt, Sisi stated.
He highlighted the longstanding cooperation with the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, spanning over two decades.
Sisi reiterated the Egyptian government's commitment to offering all forms of support and facilitation to Danish companies operating in Egypt and those looking to establish businesses in the country.
