CAIRO – 8 August 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Josep Borrell made a phone call Wednesday with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell within the contacts he is making to contain the current escalation in the Middle East.
Abdelatty briefed Borrell on the content of contacts he had made with counterparts recently in that regard. The minister reiterated the salience of ending the war in Gaza as it is being the main drive behind the stretching of escalation in the Middle East. Hence, he underscored the responsibility of global major powers to pressure Israel to stop its destructive policy, assassinations, and violation of the sovereignty of other states.
The Egyptian minister added that the two-state solution would be the only permanent settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and that the EU and other peace partners must intensify their efforts to bring an end to Israeli attacks on Palestinians and accomplish an official recognition of the Palestinian state.
As for Egyptian-EU relations, Minister Abdelatty asserted Egypt's eagerness for implementing the articles of the strategic partnership agreement signed between the two sides earlier this year, especially those pertaining to funding packages. In that respect, he commended the deals signed between Egyptian and European investors during the conference held in June.
