CAIRO – 22 September 2023: Egypt’s Mistral-Class Helicopter Carrier has continued to unload tons of food and relief aid in Libya after the devastating floods that struck Libya over the past days, the Armed Forces’ spokesman said on Thursday.

The aid has been unloaded from the Gamal Abdel Nasser carrier and handed to the Libyan authorities to be distributed to people in afflicted areas.

Furthermore, the carrier received a number of patients in its hospital, which is equipped with the latest medical equipment and a team of skilled doctors, the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, Egyptian search and rescue personnel also continued their efforts to recover bodies and rescue the injured in the affected areas.

The Egyptian relief camp in Martouba area near the city of Derna also received a number of citizens affected by the floods, where all aspects of medical and humanitarian care were provided.

“This comes within the framework of the Egyptian leadership’s keenness to support fraternal relations between peoples in a way that helps brothers overcome crises and adversities,” the spokesman added.

Last week, Gamal Abdel Nasser Mistral carrier unloaded heavy equipment in northeast Libya’s Tobruk, functioning as a field hospital.

The Mistral carries 102 containers, including medical supplies.

Also, Egypt sent three military planes to Libya with humanitarian aid and work groups from the Egyptian Red Crescent.

Storm Daniel, which hit north-eastern Libya on 10 September, has caused thousands to die and displaced tens of thousands in Africa’s deadliest storm on record.
