CAIRO – 25 May 2023: Executive Director of the National Training Academy (NTA), Rasha Ragheb, received on Thursday, Fouad Baghdoda, father of the Egyptian wrestling player Ahmed Bagdouda, at the headquarters of the National Training Academy.

Baghdoda expressed his happiness and gratitude to President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, and his appreciation for the care provided to his son.

The story of the Egyptian wrestler, Ahmed Fouad Baghdoda, has triggered controversy on social media over the past few days.

Baghdoda has sparked a state of frustration, wrath and shock on social media as he reportedly “fled” to France just after he won the silver medal as part of the Egyptian team at the 2023 African Wrestling Championships, which was held in Tunisia this month.

Baghdoda left his bag and belongings in the hotel and took his passport to travel from Tunisia to France a few hours before his scheduled return to Cairo.

His father, Fouad Baghdoda said in TV remarks that his son suffered from unfair treatment and pressures as he did not get his financial dues from the Egyptian Wrestling Federation over the past year.

Fouad Baghdoda said his son was rewarded LE 16,000 for the silver medal he won during the championship before the prize was deducted to only LE 1,200 after taxes.

A per President Abdel Fattah al Sisi directives, Baghdoda was invited to receive a training grant.
