Egypt’s government allocates LE 150 billion to complete 1st phase of ‘Haya Karima’

CAIRO – 22 May 2023: Egypt’s government has allocated LE 150 billion to complete the implementation of the targeted projects in the first phase of the Decent Life [Haya Karima] presidential Initiative.

According to the draft statement of sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 2023/2024, submitted by the government to the parliament in the field of rural development, it was stated that this budget includes LE 52.5 billion for sanitation projects, the establishment of 167 treatment plants and 1,441 sewage lifting stations, along with the implementation of networks with a length of 21.3 thousand km.

The presented budget also includes the allocation of LE 28.4 billion to complete the development of electricity networks in 1466 villages, as well as allocating LE 19.1 billion to complete the construction of 323 stations, purifying drinking water, and extending water networks with a length of 8.5 thousand km.

The plan for the next fiscal year presented by the government in the field of integrated rural development aims to complete the first phase of the Decent Life within the year of the plan, in addition to starting the implementation of the second phase of this initiative to expand its geographical scope to cover 1,600 villages.

The government indicated that the Decent Life initiative reflects an unprecedented radical transformation of the Egyptian countryside by targeting, villages of need in terms of infrastructure and public services, and creating ways to improve income and a decent standard of living for rural communities.

According to the government's financial statement, the initiative is the largest development initiative in the history of Egypt, whether in terms of the size of financial allocations, the scope of coverage and the number of beneficiaries, or in terms of the integration of development dimensions - economically, socially and environmentally.
