CAIRO – 17 May 2023: French Ambassador for Human Rights Delphine Borione voiced her support for a constructive and inclusive national dialogue with tangible results in Egypt, said the French embassy in Cairo in a statement on Monday.

Borione paid Egypt a two-day visit on May 9 and 10, when she held a series of interviews with Egyptian officials, lawmakers and members of the National Council for Women and the National Council for Human Rights.

The ambassador also praised the courage and commitment of civil society representatives, with whom she had rich discussions, the embassy added.

“The existence of a pluralistic and dynamic civil society is the condition for stability and development,” the embassy said.

The first session of the National Dialogue specialized committee kicked off on Sunday with a debate on holding the elections with the closed absolute list system or with the proportional list system.

The National Dialogue was launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during the family iftar event in April 2022.

President Sisi said the dialogue will open its doors for “all political forces without an exclusion” except for the parties that have shown violent behavior or sponsored terrorist attacks,” pledging to attend the final sessions of the dialogue.

The dialogue aims to reach a common ground with regard to priority issues facing Egyptian society on the political, economic, and social tracks.
