CAIRO - 10 May 2023: Egypt's permanent delegate to the Arab League Mohamed Mostafa Orfi - the current chair of the 159 session of the AL Council - called on the international community to provide international protection for the Palestinians and prod Israel into halting crimes against the Palestinians.
This came during Orfi's speech on Wednesday at the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the permanent delegate's level on the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.
Orfi held the international community fully responsible for providing international protection for the Palestinians and forcing Israel to halt its crimes against the Palestinians.
He said regional peace cannot be achieved without just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian cause, noting that the two-state solution is the only choice that satisfies all parties.
He said the international community has to intervene to to halt the inhumane and unacceptable escalation inside the occupied Palestinian territories to end the suffering of the Palestinian people as a result of these violations.
Israel had launched pre-down airstrikes targeting multiple homes and residential buildings in the besieged Gaza Strip.
In a statement on May 9, Egypt condemned the incursion of Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem under the protection of Israeli forces.
The statement further criticised the continued invasions of Palestinian cities by Israeli forces, with the latest incident occurring in Nablus.
Egypt stated that such attacks violate international law and principles of international legitimacy, and undermine efforts to achieve security in the region.
"These attacks not only exacerbate the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories but also undermine efforts to achieve calm and reduce tension in the region within the framework of the agreements reached at the Sharm El-Sheikh and Aqaba meetings," added the text.
