CAIOR – 25 April 2023: A number of dwellers of Arish city in North Sinai have been celebrating the 41st anniversary of Sinai liberation with Egypt marking the end of terrorism in the peninsula and with development continuing across the northern part of the peninsula.

The celebrations come amid increased safety across North Sinai after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has declared the end of terrorism earlier this year.

Egypt has embarked on multiple development projects in Sinai, including wastewater treatment and agricultural land reclamation projects to ensure people’s prosperity across the peninsula.

Sisi has also noted that Egypt will organize a massive celebration in the governorate of North Sinai.

The Sinai Liberation Day marks the final withdrawal of all Israeli armed forces from Sinai in 1982. This followed the 1979 US-brokered Camp David peace accords between Egypt and Israel.

Earlier on the day, Sisi laid a wreath at the memorial of the Armed Forces martyrs and the tomb of late President Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat, commemorating Sinai Liberation Day.

Sisi delivered a speech to celebrate the annual occasion.

Egypt has embarked on a battle for the development of Sinai, which requires huge efforts, sincere intentions, and patience to work, Sisi said in his speech.

“This is to provide Sinai with a new reality, befitting it and the sacrifices of all Egyptians in Sinai and in every part of the homeland,” Sisi added in a speech to celebrate the annual occasion.

The president added that Sinai has encountered a tough and unprecedented test with terrorists and takfiris flocking from every corner, aiming to separate it from the homeland by spreading terror and terrorism with the illusion that they can terrorize Egypt’s army and police.

“They ignored the fact that this great army and courageous police are vigorous fighters, fearless of death for the sake of Allah and the homeland, backed by great people who have always been patient and solid, fighting and winning,” Sisi added.

The president stressed that the coming generations will talk for long years to come, with pride, about the sacrifices and heroism shown by the men of the Armed Forces and the Police during the war on terrorism in the past ten years.

“The liberation of Sinai from occupation, terrorism, and every evil that befalls it or any part of Egypt’s eternal land is a pledge and a promise that we keep for which we continue working in order to strengthen and protect it,” Sisi stressed.

On this day, Sisi extended salutation and appreciation to late President Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat, the hero of war and peace, who made the hardest decisions on the most critical and acute moments and the darkest days.

“Allah Almighty granted him success to restore the land and the dignity and embark on the path of peace and development,” Sisi added.

Sisi also extended salutations and gratitude to the souls of the immortal martyrs of Egypt, “who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the homeland, and to the injured, who sacrificed their bodies and health, without a second thought.”
