CAIRO – 18 February 2023: On behalf of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated, on Saturday, in the Meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) held within the framework of the activities of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.

 

 

In his speech, Shoukry- President of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27- highlighted the high-level African participation in of COP27 Conference that was held in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, said Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid in a statement on Saturday.

 

The Minister added that the African participation reflected the continent's commitment to international climate action, and demonstrated the political will of African countries to confront climate change at all levels.

 

Ambassador Abu Zeid stated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated in his speech during the meeting the keenness of Egypt, which hosted the climate conference on behalf of the African continent, to place climate priorities for Africa at the heart of international climate action, reviewing the most prominent results of the conference in this regard, foremost of which is the establishment of a fund to finance Addressing the losses and damages resulting from climate change, in support of the efforts of developing countries in this regard.

 

Shoukry also highlighted the outcomes of COP 27 Conference that support the priorities of the African continent, as the COP27 called on international financing organizations to review their policies to provide the necessary financing for developing countries in the face of climate change.

 

He continued that the outcomes called for an action program for a just transition of energy that takes into account the economic and social dimensions for African countries.

 

 The conference also dealt with issues of food security, water, protecting ecosystems, with emphasizing the role of forests and oceans in containing emissions, as well as launching a number of initiatives on issues of water, adaptation, agriculture, energy, and hydrogen, Shoukry said,

 

He stressed that these results would not have been achieved without the support of African countries and all concerned African actors and institutions.
