Egypt’s Foreign ministry follows up on nationals’ conditions in Turkey, Syria

CAIRO – 7 February 2023: Egypt’s Foreign ministry said that there have been no casualties reported among the Egyptian communities in Syria nor Turkey so far as part of the devastating earthquake victims in both countries.

The Ministry said its consular sector is maintaining contacts around the clock with Egypt's embassies in Ankara and Damascus to stand on the condition of Egyptians in both countries that were hit by a massive earthquake on Monday.

There have been no Egyptian casualties reported so far, according to data released by the Egyptian embassy in Ankara; however, that two Egyptians of the same family were reported to be wounded.

The Egyptian embassy in Ankara managed to contact a member of the said family and provided the necessary support.

The ministry noted that there has been no information so far on having any Egyptian casualties in Syria.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi ordered on Tuesday dispatching five military planes to deliver urgent medical relief supplies to earthquake-hit Syria and Turkey.

A killer 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck both countries on Monday leaving thousands dead and tens of thousands injured and causing wide-spread damage.

Sisi also phoned both of his Turkish and Syrian counterparts to express condolences and sympathy over victims of the devastating earthquake.
