CAIRO - 2 February 2023: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a call on Thursday from his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulidis, to discuss the bilateral relations and issues of mutual concerns, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry's statement.

“The phone call tackled the bilateral relations that witnessed a great qualitative development over the past years,” the statement said, noting that both sides emphasized the importance of following up cooperation projects on a regular basis to ensure their implementation in a way that benefits the peoples of the two countries.

The two ministers praised the strength of the bilateral strategic relations and the bonds of friendship, the statement added.

On September 19, 2022, Shoukry met with Kasoulides, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Their meeting highlighted the specificity of relations between Egypt and Cyprus, as the course of bilateral relations and coordination of positions within international forums in general, and in the United Nations in particular, were discussed.

The two sides agreed during the meeting to enhance various aspects of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, and to put into effect the signed memorandum of understanding in the field of electrical interconnection.

They also discussed a number of important regional files, topped by the developments in the Libyan situation, as Minister Shoukry affirmed the fundamentals of Egypt’s position regarding the Libyan crisis.
