Top Egyptian, Russian diplomats discuss bilateral relations

CAIRO - 31 January 2023: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, where the two top diplomats discussed bilateral relations between Moscow and Cairo.

The Russian Foreign Minister said:" we are interested in the Egyptian position on various crises in the Middle East and Africa and the various frameworks for cooperation proposed by the Egyptian side," noting that Russia highly appreciates the balanced and studied Egyptian position on various regional issues and its endeavor to find solutions to many crises, according to Russia Today.

Lavrov noted that Moscow and Cairo exchange cooperation within the framework of the United Nations, adding:" we are witnessing attempts by some members of the international community to impose rules as an alternative to the United Nations Charter, rules that no one knows."

Lavrov said, "We are counting on holding intensive talks on the development of bilateral relations under the current circumstances."

Meanwhile, Shoukry said, "The Russian-Egyptian relations are historical and deep, and we are in the process of preparing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries."
