CAIRO - 29 January 2022: The Cabinet media center has denied as groundless reports on the spread of false gold bullion in Egypt's markets.

In a statement Sunday, the cabinet said it contacted the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade which dismissed the reports, saying all circulated gold bars are verified and stamped by the Assay & Weights Administration.

It added that regular search campaigns are launched by the Assay & Weights Administration on gold stores to make sure that all kinds of gold works in markets are original and sold with receipts.

The center appealed to citizens and social media users to verify their reports before publishing them in order to avoid confusion, and contact hotlines 19588 of the Consumer Protection Agency in case of filing complaints.
