SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt, Nov 15 (MENA) - Egypt owns several pioneering scientific centers in the agriculture research sphere, affirmed Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister El Sayed el Quseir.

The minister, meanwhile, said that Egypt stands fully ready to cooperate with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) to work on implementing the recommendations which will be issued at the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference, COP27.

Egypt is also ready to work on implementing the goals of the Food and Agriculture Sustainability Transition (FAST) initiative, which was launched during Adaptation and Agriculture Day, he added during a meeting held with a delegation from the CGIAR, on the sidelines of the global climate conference, which is currently in session in Sharm El Sheikh.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to benefit from the CGUAR's new system, which will undoubtedly facilitate for the group linking science and global researches with the regional and local partners.

The FAST initiative was launched to implement adaptation programs and increase the flexibility of the agricultural and food sector through supporting innovations and raising the efficiency of the agriculture resources, said the minister.

For his part, Director-General of ICARDA and CGIAR Regional Director of Central and West Asia, and North Africa (CWANA) Aly Abousabaa said that the group will launch an alliance for agriculture research, which will group all the research centers in Egypt, in addition to the centers affiliated with the consultative group.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on the importance of holding several meetings, either in person or on line, by the end of this month in order to draw up a plan and mechanism of the research centers alliance.
