Macron lauds Egypt’s role in laying stability foundations in Middle East, Mediterranean, Africa in meeting with Sisi

CAIRO – 7 November 2022: French President Emmanuel Macron praised Egypt’s role in laying the foundations of stability in the Middle East, the Mediterranean region, and Africa in a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday.

Sisi met with Macron on the sidelines of the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) that Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh city hosts from 6 to 18 November, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

During the meeting, Macron the firm relations between Egypt and France and the deep friendship binding the two countries.

Macron also praised the recent unprecedented momentum in the Egyptian French relations in all fields, especially on the economic and commercial levels.

For his part, Sisi praised the progress in bilateral relations between Egypt and France in all fields, affirming that Egypt looks forward to enhancing political coordination with France on various regional and international issues of mutual concern.

This especially includes coordination on issues related to food and energy security and the sectors in which France has an advantage, such as transportation and electric car industry.

The meeting witnessed consultations on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, especially the developments in Libya and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the spokesman noted.

The French president praised Egypt's remarkable success in organizing the huge global climate conference, stressing France’s keenness to coordinate and consult intensively with Egypt as one of its most important partners in the region.

COP27 kicked off on Sunday in Egypt with a vision to turn climate pledges into action in the presence of dozens of heads of state and leaders as well as more than 40,000 attendees.

Sisi welcomed COP27 guests from all over the world in Sharm El Sheikh during his speech on Monday, urging the world leaders to fulfil their climate responsibilities and pledges and appealing to stop the war in Ukraine.
