FM reviews Egypt’s vision on int’l issues with Blinken, ministers of GCC + Jordan, Iraq, Yemen

CAIRO – 24 September 2022: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s vision regarding a number of regional and international issues in a meeting held by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken with foreign ministers of Egypt, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jordan, Iraq and Yemen on Friday.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) with the presence of GCC Secretary-General Nayef Al-Hajraf, a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

During the meeting, Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s vision regarding the peace process in the Middle East, the crisis in Syria, the Yemeni file, and the repercussions of the Ukraine crisis on global food security.

The meeting discussed strategic and historic relations and the growing partnership among participants. The meeting also agreed on building on the outcome of Jeddah Security and Development Summit 2022 held in July.

The ministers agreed on the importance of enhancing peace, security, stability, and economic prosperity in the Middle East and tackling regional and international challenges, including humanitarian crisis and the crises of food, climate and health, the statement added.

On the sidelines of the UNGA session, Shoukry held numerous meetings with his counterparts from all over the world as well as a number of high-level officials and country leaders over the past days.

Shoukry’s discussions with the officials were largely focused on the repercussions of the Ukraine crisis, the need to relaunch peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis, and enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields with other countries.

Shoukry and Blinken held a meeting on Monday, where they discussed bilateral relations and a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern and hailed ties between Cairo and Washington as "strategic”.
