CAIRO – 19 September 2022: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anniken Huitfeldt, and the Maltese Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, Ian Borg, on Monday, at the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

 

The meeting with the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs focused on bilateral relations, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement.

 

Shoukry welcomed the current momentum in Norwegian companies’ investments in Egypt, in the fields of clean energy, green hydrogen production and chemical industries.

 

Shoukry also expressed that his country is looking forward to expanding these investments to include promising sectors such as food industries, agriculture, natural gas liquefaction, marine shipping, and others, the statement continued.

 

The Meeting also tackled the tripartite cooperation between the Egyptian Sovereign Fund and the Norwegian Sovereign Fund and African countries to implement development projects in Africa.

 

As for his meeting with the Maltese counterpart, Shoukry discussed the ways of upgrading the pace of mutual diplomatic and political visits at all levels and pushing forward with the strengthening of areas of economic and trade cooperation.

 

The Egyptian Minister welcomed the signing of a deal of

the Mediterranean Cooperative Network of Sovereign Wealth Funds in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa between Egypt's Sovereign Fund for Investment and Development, Malta Company for Government Investments, and the French BpiFrance Fund last March.

 

Shoukry also congratulated his Maltese counterpart on his country's upcoming membership in the Security Council, stressing Egypt's full readiness to coordinate with Malta on regional and international issues of common interest.

 

Both sides also discussed issues of mutual concerns like Libyan crisis, the illegal immigration issue, and the COP 27 summit, besides the Palestinian-Israeli cause.
