CAIRO – 12 September 2022: Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi denied Monday news reports that Egypt is importing nearly 90% of its wheat needs.

Moselhi called for adopting accuracy principle, while talking about figures and statistics and volumes of exports and imports of foodstuffs, particularly wheat.

Moselhi was speaking in the general session as part of second day's activities of the forum, entitled "Environment and Development 2022..Route to Sharm El Sheikh..COP27."

The forum is organized by the Arab Water Council under the sponsorship of the Foreign Ministry and in cooperation with the Environment Ministry.

The minister pointed out Egypt is importing only about 51% of wheat and the local production is increasingly up.

This year, Egypt's local production of wheat exceeded 2.5 million tons, according to him.

Moselhi stressed Egypt's strategic stockpile of wheat and basic commodities is safe and sufficient for more than six months.
