CAIRO – 8 September 2022: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated on Thursday the Olympic Village of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) in Ismailia city.

The president also witnessed the hoisting of flags on a number of new locally-made vessels in the canal accompanied by SCA Chairman Osama Rabie.

The new vessels seek to back the vital waterway and cope with accelerating technological development in the field of maritime industries.

During the inauguration ceremony, Olympic Village project’s General Supervisor Mohamed Enani present a detailed explanation about the establishments of the village.

The village is established over an area of 350,000 square meters and embraces a sports stadium, as well as a complex of swimming pools and a sports health club, said Enani.

Moreover, the village houses multiple courts for handball, basketball, volleyball, and speedball. The main hall in the village accommodates around 2,300 spectators.

Sisi was also briefed on the details of the stadium of the SCA, which can accommodate around 21,000 people and was designed in accordance with requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Around 12% of global trade passes through the 193-km-long canal, which represents the shortest sea link between the Asian and European continents, connecting the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea.
