CAIRO – 17 August 2022: Hurghada International Airport is receiving Wednesday 80 flights carrying a total of 12,000 tourists, with Germans being on top of the nationalities arriving.

Right before the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine War, Hurghada International Airport received 11 Russian flights - on February 22 - carrying more than 1,500 Russian passengers, among dozens of international flights arriving today from different countries.

In August 2021, Hurghada International Airport received the first Russian flight coming from Moscow after nearly six years of suspension after the plane crash incident that took place in 2015.

In parellel, Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport received the first flight coming from the Russian capital with 517 Russian passengers from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.

Russians used to make up one third of all tourists visiting Egypt, but this figure dropped considerably after a ban was imposed on direct flights, according to a report by Goldman Sachs Group in April.

In another context, the Hospitality Establishments Chamber announced in February that the number of workers who would be trained by June had been raised from 25,000 to 40,000 composing 30 percent of formal laborers in the sector.

The training is a two-day intensive course that covers hygiene standards, and appropriate ways of dealing with guests and customers. That is why the chamber currently gives priority to those who work in the food and beverage departments.

The workers who have been trained so far mainly belong to Sharm El Sheikh, and Hurghada resorts, which offer all-inclusive stays, which require an optimum quality service.

The chamber pointed out that it would later target workers in other tourist destinations such as Greater Cairo, Ain Sokhna, Luxor, Aswan, Alexandria, Alamein, North Coast, Matrouh, Marsa Alam, and Taba.
