CAIRO – 11 August 2022: Egypt is free from the new Langya virus, said Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population.

In his comments to "From Egypt" program on Wednesday evening, Abdel Ghaffar said that the Langya virus has not been detected in Egypt.

He added that the ministry keeps close contact with the World Health Organization (WHO) to be updated on information regarding the new virus.

It has been reported that 35 people were infected with the new virus in northeast China.

The Langya henipavirus was detected in 2018 to be transmitted from animals to humans. However, scientists have no evidence the virus transmits from human to human.
