CAIRO – 28 June 2022: After two hearings in the case murdering Nayera Ashraf outside Mansoura University, the presiding judge referred the file of defendant Mohamed Adel to the Grand Mufti, indicating the death penalty on Tuesday.

The sentence is scheduled for July 6, only 16 days after the murder on June 20. Meanwhile, the public prosecution announced it would post its prosecution argument on Facebook and Youtube later Tuesday.

Adel stabbed Ashraf numerous times in a reaction to her refusing to marry him, and finally cut her throat. The crime shocked the country, but some reactions on social media sympathized with Adel after believing his allegations that Ashraf had manipulated him, insulted him, and inconsiderate of his feelings.
