CAIRO – 27 May 2022: The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Cairo’s Fustat has received Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides and Homer Mavrommatis, the Cypriot ambassador to Egypt.

Marian Adel, the chief curator of NMEC, accompanied Kasoulides and his delegation in a tour inside the museum, which included the central exhibition halls and the rooms of the royal mummies and Egyptian textiles, which were recently opened.

The Cypriot minister and his delegation praised the splendor of the NMEC, the beauty of the museum display, and the latest methods used in displaying the antiquities and collectibles inside the museum.

Kasoulides was also keen to write in the museum's visit book, expressing his great admiration for the museum's treasures, which he described as impressive.

The Cypriot foreign minister has been in an official visit to Egypt, during which he held expanded talks with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

In a joint press conference with Kasoulides on Thursday, Shoukry said Egypt and Cyprus continue to coordinate and consult on the situation in Libya and the Palestinian issue and the activation of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.

“We will continue coordination and consultation to achieve the interests of the two countries,” Shoukry said, adding that both sides work on enhancing stability in the eastern Mediterranean.

The Egyptian minister praised the role of Cyprus in strengthening relations between Egypt and the European Union, saying Cyprus is working to convey the Egyptian point of view to its European brothers.

Kasoulides expressed his country's desire to strengthen relations with Egypt, as well as relations among the three countries Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.

Kasoulides said that Egypt plays an important role in Libya to establish security and stability and exerts positive efforts in the Palestinian cause, especially in the Gaza Strip.

He added that Egypt's hosting of the climate change conference (COP27) due in November 2022 is an important and pivotal event, as Egypt takes on a successful role in the region.
