CAIRO – 13 May 2022:  On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting on climate in Denmark’s capital of Copenhagen, Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad met with German State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action at the Federal Foreign Office Jennifer Morgan to discuss ways help farmers adapt climate change impacts on agricultural crops.

Both sides discussed the usage of an early alarming system in the agricultural field to help farmers predict the climate fluctuation to avoid climate change impacts on the crops, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment on Friday.

Fouad reviewed the measures taken by Egypt in the climate change, saying that the ministry has prepared the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, which aims to achieve a sustainable low-carbon economy, build resilience and adaptability to the climate change impacts, and improve governance and infrastructure for financing climate activities.

For her part, Morgan expressed her appreciation for Egypt's efforts in climate action and its commitment to discussing the details of cooperation between both countries, the statement added.

Meanwhile, Faoud met with Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, the Egyptian Ministry said on Friday in another statement.

Both Ministers discussed the ongoing preparations for hosting the COP27 Conference in Egypt, where the UAE, which would host the conference (COP28) in 2023, expressed its aspiration for cooperation in this field.

Fuad stressed Egypt’s full coordination with the UAE side in transferring the entire Egyptian experience of hosting the COP27 Conference.
