CAIRO – 25 April 2022: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi congratulated in the early hours of Monday his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on winning a second presidential term wishing him to lead his country into more development and prosperity.

 

 

President Sisi added on Twitter, "I affirm that Egyptian-French relations were, and still are close, historic, and growing. We look forward to reciprocal consultations and coordination on a number of regional and international matters of joint interest."

 

 

Macron got reelected Sunday after garnering 58.5 percent of votes, amid an abstention of 28 percent, which is the highest since 1969, according to the Financial Times.

 

Quoted by the publication, Macron said, addressing his supporters in front of the Eiffel Tower, "Our country is beset by doubts and divisions…Today's vote requires us to consider all the hardships of people's lives and to respond effectively to them and to the anger expressed."

 

On the other hand, his contestant Marine Le Pen, who received 41.5 percent of votes, vowed that her part "Rassemblement National" would prepare for the National Assembly elections scheduled for June.
