Egypt’s FM, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change discuss preparation for Cop 27 summit

CAIRO – 24 April 2022: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the Cop 27 President-Designate, met with UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change Sultan Al Jaber on Saturday.

Both Ministers have exchanged the views on global climate action, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez on his official Twitter account.

They also discussed Egypt’s preparations for hosting UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, affirming the need for coordination and consultation between the two countries in this file, especially since the UAE will host COP28 in 2023.

Jaber praised Egypt’s efforts in reducing the repercussions of climate change and implementing renewable energy projects.

Four days ago, Shoukry received German Special Envoy to International Climate Action Jennifer Morgan. The minister said he looks forward to a continuous German role in the reinforcement of climate action bilaterally and multilaterally in the coming period. That is in light of holding COP 27 in Sharm El Sheikh next November and that will include high-profile meetings and activities.

On April 21, 2022, Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat said that successive meetings with development partners and continuous communication between technical teams resulted in many frameworks of partnership and cooperation under Egypt's presidency of the United Nations Climate Conference, whether at the level of technical support, or development funds, as well as events that will be organized as part of the Climate Conference and Finance Day events.
