CAIRO – 13 April 2022: Egypt on Wednesday offered deep condolences to South Africa over the flood victims that struck KwaZulu-Natal province.

The tragic incident has left scores of people dead and wounded and damaged facilities, homes and infrastructure in the area.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry extended “sincere condolences of the Egyptian government and people to the South African people and the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery."

The ministry affirmed Egypt's support for South Africa in such a painful scourge.

At least 259 people were killed in South Africa on Wednesday as heavy rains and floods hit the eastern cost of the country, damaging roads and destroying houses.

The regional government, in a tweet, has described the incident as “one of the darkest moments in the history" of the afflicted KwaZulu-Natal province.
