Egypt prioritizes gender equality, women empowerment: Planning min. tells Dubai forum

CAIRO – 28 March 2022: Egypt’s Minister of Planning Hala El-Said highlighted on Monday the priority the Egyptian state attaches to gender equality and women's empowerment as she addressed a forum in Dubai on leadership.

The minister said the Egyptian women hold key posts in various state institutions including the judicial ones, according to a press release by her ministry.

She noted that the women’s quote inside the cabinet has reached 24.2 percent, 28 percent in the Parliament, and 14 percent in the Senate. There are also three female governors, seven female deputy governors, Said said, adding that women also represent around 50 percent of the Administrative Prosecution authority.

Said's remarks came during her participation in a session addressing the theme of the "philosophy of leadership in government .. dialogue with Arab female ministers" held as part of the second edition of the Women in Government Forum that is being held on the side-lines of the World Government Summit 2022 (WGS2022) that will run from 29 to 30 March in Dubai.

She added that the state is committed to protecting women against violence and providing care to mothers and families as part of Egypt's 2030 strategy which calls for ensuring political, social and economic rights of women.

The World Government Summit 2022 will be held exceptionally on March 29-30 in tandem with the closing of “Expo 2020 Dubai”, the largest event of its kind that brings the world together, under the theme “Shaping Future Governments”.

The Summit will bring thought leaders, global experts and decision makers from around the globe to share and contribute to the development of tools, policies, and models that are essential in shaping future governments.

WGS2022 will feature 15 global forums to tackle threats emerging from volatile financial markets and new virtual worlds in the stage of recovering from COVID-19 pandemic.

The forums also include Global Metaverse Forum, the Global Crypto Forum, and the Cybersecurity in Aviation Forum, the Climate Change Forum, the Global Health Forum, the Global Energy Forum, the SDGs in Action, the Women in Government Forum, the Government Services Forum, and the Gender Balance Forum, the Forbes 30 Under 30 Forum and the TIME 100 Gala.
