CAIRO – 24 March 2022: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from the Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said the Egyptian Presidency in a statement on Thursday.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy briefed President Sisi on the latest developments in Ukraine and the course of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, saying that dialogue and diplomatic solutions should be upheld.

“Egypt supports all endeavors that would speed up the political settlement of the crisis through the negotiations,” said President Sisi, adding that Egypt, with deep concern, is following up on the developments in Ukraine and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

President Sisi expressed appreciation to Ukrainian President Zelenskyy for the measures taken by the Ukrainian side to secure the exit of Egyptian citizens from the Ukrainian border outlets.

Also, Zelenskyy thanked President Sisi for hosting Ukrainian tourists in Egypt’s tourist resorts and providing them with all means of assistance since the outbreak of the crisis. He also thanked President Sisi for facilitating the procedures of their return to Ukraine's neighboring countries.

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Thursday a phone call from his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, who presented the latest developments on the combat and humanitarian levels as well as the pathway of negotiations.

On his side, Minister Shokry stressed the salience of working on sparing lives, while deploying all efforts and resorting to all means that would lead to pacification and accomplishment of a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Within that framework, the minister pointed out Egypt's interest to put all efforts that would achieve that outcome. Shokry also informed the Ukrainian minister that the issue was discussed at the Arab League's extraordinary meeting and that the organization formed a communication task force to follow up on the crisis. Hence, the Egyptian minister examined with his counterpart ways of activating that task force.
