CAIRO – 24 March 2022: Egypt’s Acting Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar highlighted on Thursday the importance of unifying Arab efforts to achieve self-sufficiency of coronavirus vaccine in Arab countries through supporting localizing its manufacturing.

Abdel Ghaffar made the remarks during the 56th regular session of the Arab Health Ministers in the headquarters of the League of Arab States with the attendance of Haifa Abu Ghazala, the assistant secretary-general of the Arab League.

Abdel Ghaffar, also the minister of higher education and scientific research, affirmed the Egyptian state's keenness to continue supporting Arab countries to implement all decisions and recommendations issued by the Council of Arab Ministers of Health, in a way that ensures the achievement of health security for Arab peoples.

The minister stressed the importance of approving the Arab strategy to unify the procedures for approving the use of the coronavirus vaccines in Arab countries.

He also affirmed the need for Arab countries to share their pioneering and successful experiences in all health fields through the League of Arab States’ website to maximize ways of mutual benefit among Arab countries.

The minister affirmed his keenness to strengthen health systems in Arab countries to face future health challenges.

Egypt, over the past year, has cooperated with China’s Sinovac to locally produce tens of millions of the Sinovac/VACSERA vaccine. The country also secured tens of millions of doses of all other vaccine types.

The number of people who are fully vaccinated against coronavirus in Egypt reached 31,551,587, the ministry said on Saturday, urging citizens to register their information at the ministry’s website: to receive the vaccine.

“Coronavirus vaccines contribute to protecting all family members from severe infections with coronavirus and its variants,” the ministry said, addressing citizens.

The ministry also stressed that the Egyptian state spares no effort in providing vaccines to citizens for free within the framework of the ministry’s keenness to protect the health of citizens.

The ministry said that the average number of daily coronavirus infections and deaths has hit 788 and 12 respectively this week.

In a statement, the ministry said the average number of daily recoveries reached 766 people after they received the required medical care, recording a total of 430,198 recoveries since the start of the pandemic.
