CAIRO – 8 February 2022: The media center of the Egyptian Cabinet denied news about forced displacement of citizens of Arish port area from their homes, and not paying them compensation as false.

According to the center, rumors were spread about displacing Arish Port citizens from their homes without providing compensation, under the pretext of development plans. The center then contacted North Sinai governorate, which denied these news as untrue.

North Sinai governorate stressed that all owners of homes that will be removed will be paid the compensation before the area is even evacuated. Citizens can choose to either receive payment, alternative housing units or a plot of 120 square meters land in Al-Rayseh area.

The cabinet clarified that Al-Arish Port area is currently witnessing a comprehensive development and an expansion process to reach the berth to 1.5 km and deepen the port to reach 14 metres, as the Arish port is the main gateway for the export of Sinai products of coal, cement and glass sand.

Besides, a logistic area will be established next to the port to provide many job opportunities for the youth of the governorate, highlighting the importance of Arish Port especially after it being part of the Suez Canal Ports Authority, adding that it becomes an international port that receives giant ships.
