CAIRO - 7 February 2022: The Health Ministry said Monday that 2,301 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases reported in the country since the beginning of the outbreak to 439,651.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghafar said 59 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 22,936.

As many as 3,321 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 372,332 so far, the spokesman said.

Germany gave Egypt 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as a gift on Friday, said ambassador Günter Sautter، the Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations, in a meeting with Egyptian Ambassador to Germany Khaled Galal.

This gift comes in light of the bilateral relations between both countries, he added, noting that Egypt obtained nearly 4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Germany, either through the bilateral framework or through the COVAX  facility.

Earlier this month, Egypt received 667,100 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from Belgium and Germany via COVAX in cooperation with GAVI Alliance, said Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Health Ministry spokesman in a statement.

This comes within the state's plan to diversify and expand the provision of coronavirus vaccines, in order to preserve the state's gains in addressing the pandemic.

On January 28, 2022, the Cairo International Airport received 4 million coronavirus vaccine doses from the United Kingdom, British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley said.

This is the largest vaccine shipment ever from the UK on the bilateral level between Europe and Africa, Bayley said, affirming that “no one is safe until everyone is safe”.
