CAIRO – 29 January 2022: The Egyptian Ministry of Interior denied allegations made by the recently released archaeologist Rami Shaath about bad conditions and inhuman treatment during his incarceration in Egypt as false, and that his claims were made “to gain sympathy of foreign public opinion for his personal gains.”

In an official statement by the ministry, the claims made by Shaath to foreign press were refuted, as the ministry said that “he received all his rights as a prisoner, and got all his visits in addition to integrated health care he received.”

The statement added that the prison authorities responded and met all requests made by Shaath’s wife to come to the country and visit him at exceptional times.
