CAIRO – 24 January 2022: Egypt and the European Union are intending to run for the presidency of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum during the meeting of the Forum’s Coordinating Committee, which will be held in March 2022.

This comes within the framework of Egypt’s keenness to contribute to strengthening the efforts of the international community to combat terrorism, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

Egypt is one of the founding countries of the forum, which was established in 2011 and has 30 member states, and cooperates closely with the United Nations bodies concerned with combating terrorism and many relevant international and regional organizations, the ministry said.

This comes with the aim of supporting efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and strengthening national capacities in this regard, the ministry said.

Egypt has co-chaired with the European Union since 2017 the capacity-building working group for the East African region within the framework of the Forum.
