CAIRO - 16 January 2022: As part of his first visit in 2022 and first as COP President, Alok Sharma Sunday concluded a visit to Egypt, the host of #COP27.

Whilst in Cairo, Sharma had meetings with key government ministers, including Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, and Egypt’s COP President Designate, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, to boost the UK-Egypt green partnership, a statement by the UK Embassy said.

Sharma proudly announced the expansion of the UK Government’s 'Climate Finance Accelerator’ (CFA) Programme in Egypt to support climate projects in the country.

He also met with business leaders from the private sector pursuing green initiatives in Egypt to discuss how they can help in making COP27 successful.

The COP President is now heading to the UAE to meet with its Crown Prince and key ministers to discuss preparations for COP28, which will take place in 2023.

Egypt and the United Kingdom have affirmed their joint commitment to accelerate the fight against climate change as COP26 President Sharma met on Saturday with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the president-designate of COP27.

The meeting has agreed on the need for strengthening cooperation between the UK and Egypt to confront the impacts of climate change and build on the current global climate action, a joint statement read.
