This came during a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday under Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli.

The minister reviewed measures taken to deal with the three cases of Omicron detected in Egypt upon their arrival from outside the country on December 4.

Reviewing the epidemiological situation in Egypt, Abdel Ghaffar pointed out to the rates of weekly infection and bed occupancy at isolation hospitals in addition to the current vaccination situation.

He said that a total of 33,778,817 people received the first dose of the vaccine and 20,094,696 people received the second one, adding that a total of 53,873,513 doses were administered with an average 353,130 doses per day.

A total of 116,851,020 doses of AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharm, Johnson & Johnson, Sputnik, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines have been supplied to Egypt so far, the minister said.

The minister also assured the cabinet members that the polio vaccination campaign is going on regularly, saying that 98 percent of those targeted have been vaccinated
