21M women examined as part of Sisi’s health initiative to support Egyptian women

CAIRO - 16 December 2021: A total of 21,357,888 women were examined, as part of the President’s initiative to support the health of Egyptian women, since the initiative was launched in July of the year 2019, announced Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and acting Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.

 

The initiative includes conducting examinations and raising awareness about health care for women from the age of 18 years old, for free.

 

This came during a meeting to follow up on the progress of the initiative and key performance indicators, stressing the important role of presidential initiatives in the field of public health to improve the health system, which is reflected in the achievement of sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

 

The Minister was briefed that a total of 14,969,542 women were examined as part of the initiative, during the Corona Virus pandemic.  

 

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the ministry, stated that the minister also followed up the procedures for examining and diagnosing women within the initiative, as 185,191 mammograms were performed, 11,263 tumor samples were withdrawn for analysis, 6,093 cases of breast cancer were discovered, and treatment was submitted since the launch of the initiative.

 

The Minister also directed to quickly activate the terms of cooperation with the National Cancer Center in France (Gustave Roussy) and transfer the experience of one-day diagnostic clinics to detect breast tumors (ONE STOP Clinic), which contributes to the speedy diagnosis of infected cases with high efficiency and in one place within only 8 hours.

 

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Morsi, Executive Director of the initiative, explained that the latest global treatment protocols for breast cancer were provided within the initiative, through 14 centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population.

 

Dr. Ahmed Morsi pointed out that examination services are provided for women in the initiative through 3,538 health units at the level of the governorates of the Republic, in addition to the participation of 114 hospitals in the initiative to provide medical services for women whose condition requires an advanced examination, adding that the locations of these units can be known through the official website of the initiative.
