CAIRO - 27 November 2021: The National Committee to Eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), co-chaired by the National Council for Women (NCW) and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), launched a door-knocking campaign in ten governorates covered by the Decent Life presidential initiative.

The campaign was launched in Gharbia, Damietta, Kafr el Sheikh, Alexandria, Qalyubia, Menoufia, Giza, Behira, Ismailia and the New Valley.

The three-day campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the FGM elimination issue in a way that creates community’s rejection for such outdated practices, said Isis Mahmoud, the director-general of the NCW’s department of planning programs and awareness campaigns.

It also aims to inform people about the health and mental risks posed by this crime, she added.

This campaign comes in conjunction with the Global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence which focuses on raising awareness about violence against women, she said.
